We celebrate the life of a Lakeside son: Charles “Charlie” Kouns
June 1, 1938 - April 11, 2023
Charlie was the firstborn child to Erman & Edna Kouns, followed by Wesley &
Virginia. He married his high school love, Joan Oppenheimer and together they
were blessed with two wonderful daughters: Cassie & Janice. Loving the back
country, they purchased acreage in Jamul in 1973 and built their forever home ...along with his famous fish pond. Charlie retired from SDGE as a welding instructor to pursue his interests and hobbies. He was an avid sportsman, particularly hunting and fishing, always supplying his family's table with fresh wild game. If he wasn’t hunting or fishing, you’d most likely have found him in his workshop. With his natural mechanical skills, he loved working on hot rods, dune buggies and classic trucks and cars. Charlie could be “crusty” in speech until you encouraged him to recall a story from the past. His memories of Lakeside and its history were accurate, fascinating and often humorous.
